Improve Skin Elasticity, Tone, and Overall Appearance

As time passes, collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and other key structural components in the skin naturally diminish. This can lead to fine lines, laxity, and a less firm, less radiant appearance.

Sofwave™ is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment that delivers focused energy to the mid-dermis to stimulate a wound-healing response and new collagen formation. At The Surgeon’s Spa – Beachwood and The Surgeon’s Spa – Westlake, Sofwave™ is often integrated into a broader skin health plan that includes sun protection, healthy lifestyle choices, and medical-grade skincare.

What Is Sofwave™?

Sofwave™ uses high-frequency, focused ultrasound to create small zones of controlled thermal injury at a precise depth beneath the skin’s surface. The outer layer of skin remains intact, while the deeper tissues respond by producing more collagen and other supportive elements.

Benefits may include:

  • Improved firmness and elasticity
  • Softening of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enhancement of overall skin quality and smoothness

Because Sofwave™ does not involve needles or incisions, it appeals to patients who want meaningful rejuvenation without surgery or extended downtime.

What to Expect During Sofwave™ Treatment

Before your treatment, you’ll meet with a provider at The Surgeon’s Spa to:

  • Review your medical and skin history.
  • Discuss your current skincare routine and lifestyle factors.
  • Identify specific concerns such as early jowling, brow descent, or texture changes.
  • Decide whether Sofwave™, Morpheus8®, laser resurfacing, or other options—or a combination—is best suited to your goals.

On treatment day:

  • A topical numbing cream is usually applied for 30–60 minutes to improve comfort.
  • Some patients may also choose additional comfort measures such as inhaled nitrous oxide (Pronox) or a mild oral medication, as carefully discussed in advance.
  • The Sofwave handpiece is then applied to the skin. Ultrasound energy is delivered in measured pulses to the targeted areas.
  • You may feel warmth or brief stinging during energy delivery. Treatment time varies depending on how many areas are being addressed, often ranging from 20 to 45 minutes.

After treatment, the skin may appear slightly pink or feel mildly tender, but most patients resume regular activities the same or next day. There are generally no significant restrictions, though sun protection and gentle skincare are important as always.

Sofwave™ FAQs

Both use ultrasound, but they target tissue at different depths and use different energy patterns. Sofwave™ focuses on the mid-dermis and is designed to improve skin quality and mild to moderate laxity with a specific depth profile. We’ll help you determine which device, if either, is appropriate for you.

Because it uses ultrasound rather than light or laser, Sofwave™ can be appropriate for a wide variety of skin tones when used correctly. Your provider will confirm suitability at consultation.

Many patients have one primary treatment, while others benefit from a series of sessions based on their starting point and goals. Improvement unfolds gradually over months as collagen remodeling occurs.

Yes. Sofwave™ is often combined with medical-grade skincare, neurotoxin injections, fillers, Morpheus8®, or laser resurfacing as part of a comprehensive anti-aging plan.

Temporary redness, mild swelling, or tenderness can occur. Serious side effects are uncommon when treatment is performed by trained providers using appropriate settings.
